近代竹工芸に類まれな芸術性と現代的な造形表現をもたらした飯塚琅玕斎の初期の作品「手付花籃」。すず竹と呼ばれる細い竹を使い、高い技術で竹ひごを丁寧に削り、一本一本が高い精度で削られた竹素材で編むことにより優美なフォルム（カーブ）を作り出しており、取手の編み込みに飯塚家の作風がよく表れています。

Flower basket is an early-period piece by Iizuka Rokansai, who gave creative artistry and modern form to bamboo art. For this work, Rokansai shaved strips of suzudake with exceeding skill, then plaited the precisely shaven strips to create an elegant, curved form. The Iizuka style is well expressed in the braided handle.
